Chapter 10 · 10.3
Downloading and installing on Mac (Apple Silicon)
Nextcloud Office is available for Macs with an Apple chip: M1, M2, M3, M4 and newer. The installation file is around 1 GB in size, so downloading may take a while.
Do you have a Mac with Apple Silicon?
Click the Apple menu in the top left and choose About This Mac. If it shows "Apple M1" or higher next to Chip, you can use Nextcloud Office. If it shows Processor with "Intel", you have an Intel Mac. There's no version for that, so work in the browser instead.
Downloading and installing
- Go to www.weboke.nl/download and click macOS (Apple Silicon) next to Nextcloud Office. Or use this direct link: macOS (Apple Silicon).
- Open the downloaded file Nextcloud-Office-DesktopEditors-latest-macos-arm64.dmg in your Downloads folder.
- A window opens with the program. Drag it to the Applications folder.
- Open the program from Applications or via Launchpad. The first time, your Mac will ask whether you want to open a program downloaded from the internet. Click Open.
- Then eject the dmg disk image in Finder. You can delete the dmg file itself.
The program is signed and verified by Apple, so you don't need to change any security settings.
After installation
You'll see the start screen with Create new, Recent files, Open local file, Connect to cloud and Settings on the left. Under Settings, you choose the Interface language and the Interface theme, and how the program handles Updates. Then link your WebOké Nextcloud, see Linking the program to your WebOké Nextcloud.
Tip: want docx and xlsx files to always open in Nextcloud Office from now on? Set this up via the file's information in Finder, under Open with, and apply it to all files of that type.
