Can I send out a mailing via my hosting package with WebOké?
You may send a mailing or newsletter through your hosting package at WebOké, within a few rules. These rules are there to prevent spam and to make sure that mail from all customers on the same server keeps arriving properly.
The rules
- Only with permission. Only send mail to people who have signed up themselves, preferably with a confirmed signup (double opt-in): after signing up, the recipient clicks a link in a confirmation email. You must be able to show how you obtained each address. Unsolicited mail is not allowed.
- Always a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing must be possible with one simple action, via a link to a web page. A reply email saying "please unsubscribe" is not enough. Also add the List-Unsubscribe header to your mailing, see Unsubscribe with one click: the List-Unsubscribe header.
- Within the sending limit. By default you can send a maximum of 300 emails per day with a package, combined: mailboxes, webmail and your website. For some packages that limit is lower. See Limit for sending mail.
- Not all at once during the day. A mailing puts a load on the server, and also on the program that creates the mail. So send a larger mailing in the evening or at night, and preferably in small batches. Preferably run the sending software on your own computer and send via SMTP with your mailbox.
- Legal content. The content must be permitted under Dutch law and may not be offensive or discriminatory.
Make sure your mailing arrives
Large mail providers such as Gmail, Yahoo and Outlook.com set requirements for anyone sending a lot of mail. Without SPF, DKIM and DMARC, and without one-click unsubscribe, a mailing quickly ends up in spam or gets rejected.
- Check your domain with the Email check.
- Read about the requirements that apply in The requirements of Gmail, Yahoo and Microsoft for those sending a lot of mail.
- Remove addresses that keep giving an error message from your list. You can read what an error message means in Mail delivery failed.
Prefer a newsletter service
Do you send newsletters regularly, or to more than a few hundred people? Then use a newsletter service, such as Laposta, Brevo or Mailchimp. Such a service handles unsubscribing, processes error messages, keeps statistics and sends through servers made for that purpose. Link the service to your own domain with the SPF and DKIM records the service gives you, see Adding or changing an SPF record and Setting up DKIM when the DNS is hosted elsewhere.
Mail bounces with an error message
If you send more than your limit, the mail bounces back with a message such as Daily send limit ... is reached, message limit reached or sometimes just Unrouteable address. The counter resets to zero every night. Do you really need to send more? Contact us, then we'll look together at what's possible.
